The Pope caused me no end of trouble this past weekend. He was in DC when we b&c and I left, but he followed us to New York. I'm sorry about that, if you live there. On the other hand, b&c's and my unblemished record of bringing gorgeous weather wherever we go on vacation remains intact. The weather was perfect the whole time we were in NYC. It's always perfect when we go on vacation, yet no one ever thanks us. We try not to be bitter.
Anyway, the above picture is my favorite from our trip, which began Wednesday morning and ended Saturday evening with our return to suburbia. Because I am apparently unable to read a subway map, I was trying to reach the 96th Street station by taking an A train, and I had just realized my error when a priest stood up at the other end of the car to ask the conductor for directions. I suppose he was headed to the Cloisters, but it's hard to be sure. Anyway, longtime readers may recall that I lust after men wearing cassocks (or monastic robes of any sort). This guy would have been only semi-attractive in civilian dress, but with the full-length black, he was yummy. Not that you can tell, but take my work for it.
In general, I would have to say that there is too much of both hotness and clothing in New York at the moment. I saw a good many nice bodies running around the reservoir, but few of them had their shirts off. I leave it to you to decide whether it's not hot enough yet or they just don't have their summer abs. We were, however, on a walk through Brooklyn on Thursday, and what appeared to be a prep school cross-country team ran by us. Fortunately, half of them decided to turn around and run back, and I got this picture, which is, at least, not as blurry as the last.
I always have a good time in New York. I will note, however, that when your partner comes down with some sort of moderately severe stomach bug while you're on vacation, it puts a damper on things for everybody. I'd have to say that b&c really didn't have a very good time. He did enjoy our trip to the Met, but -- aside from that little six-mile trek to and through Brooklyn -- he spent much of the rest of the trip in bed. This left me unexpectedly on my own. I enjoy being on my own, but I enjoy it more when I've had a chance to prepare for it. Still, it was a very restorative trip for me, and I did get a lot of nice pictures in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Here, for example, is a blossom from a tree peony.
A more extensive report will follow in a day or two.

We've got four new tree peonys in our front yard.....I think they'll do far better this year than last now that they've had a chance to grow a bit. I love them. We don't, however, have a pope anywhere nearby.
Sorry I didn't catch that you'd be in the city, however we are grateful for the resplendant weather. The sun just sprang again so its off to tea.
Hope to catch ya next time.
